I believe that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of successful counselling. I strive to offer a safe, non-judgemental and confidential environment where you can explore the issues that may be troubling you or holding you back. My approach is humanistic and flexible so that I can do my best to be responsive to the needs of each of my clients and offer a tailored made session for each of my clients.
Counselling offers a chance to tell your story and be heard. It is a journey, a process and not often an easy one, but one which will hopefully lead you to a place where you are more fully engaged in and enjoying your own life, with a growing awareness of what you feel, what you need, and what you want.
I work with adolescents in a local high school where I run its counselling service. Here I support issues such as bereavement, anxiety, anger management, post traumatic stress and identity and self esteem issues.
For those of you that can remember those times, I would imagine you might recall it with a variety of different emotions? Often those years can be so much fun, making new friends and choosing your own path. Yet, it can also be a challenging time in our lives when we are seeking to find our personal identity and gain more independence.
This can present a variety of issues to manage, in addition to school life and the lure of the internet and chat rooms. Teenagers have so many pressures to deal with that if left to spiral may result in them experiencing depression, low self esteem, drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders and relational difficulties. My main aim at school is to support and empower students, through counselling while they learn to recognise their strengths and weaknesses, as well as teaching ways of overcoming worries, pressures and negative behaviours.
All too often we can be left carrying some unresolved issues into adulthood. We may tend to lean towards more unhealthy or destructive behaviour patterns. We may repress our emotions which tend to emerge in different ways such as anxiety, anger, depression or illness. I have worked with many adults where these issues from the past recur again and again throughout their lives. Counselling can help us deal with a wide spectrum of issues so that we can let go of the past and move on to far more enjoyable and fulfilling lives.
Essentially the relationship between us will be the most important factor in creating effective change for you. One of my strengths is to create strong relationships with my clients based on trust where they feel able to share and explore the problems they are facing and express resulting emotions and thoughts within a safe containing space.
I wonder if this feels suitable for you. If so please do not hesitate to call me for a conversation where I can answer any questions and supply more information if desired. Please see my contact page to make an enquiry.
